- Stefan Silbernagl (Author),Stefan Silbernagl grew up in the Allgäu and, after graduating from high school, studied electrical engineering and later human medicine in Munich. After passing the state examination, he received his doctorate in 1966. After working as an assistant, Stefan Silbernagl initially worked as a general practitioner and emergency doctor in Munich. From 1968 he completed his training in physiology, first in Munich, then at the University of Innsbruck. In 1974, Silbernagl completed his habilitation in Innsbruck and was appointed associate professor in 1979. Stefan Silbernagl was appointed to the chair for vegetative physiology in 1981 and also headed the associated institute until his retirement in 2004. From 1988 to 1999 he was active as a spokesman for the DFG Collaborative Research Center “Molecular Basics of Signal Transmission and Material Transport in Membranes” and from 1991 to 1994 he was also a member of the commission for the establishment of the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden.
